Protecting Wyoming’s Pronghorn: Securing Their Future, Preserving Their Legacy
The Pronghorn Fund is dedicated to safeguarding Wyoming’s most iconic species. In collaboration with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, we focus on targeted conservation efforts, research, and education to protect the future of these remarkable animals.
About the Fund
Pronghorn are a distinctive and vital element of Wyoming’s landscape, reflecting the essence of the state’s wide-open spaces. Their remarkable adaptability and enduring presence inspired Rich and Mary Guenzel to establish the Pronghorn Fund, a restricted endowment through The WYldlife Fund dedicated exclusively to pronghorn conservation.
Wyoming is home to the largest pronghorn population and possesses the most crucial habitats for their continued survival. This special endowment allows The WYldlife Fund to bolster and extend the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s strategic efforts in pronghorn management and conservation by supporting targeted initiatives. The Pronghorn Fund is dedicated to preserving pronghorn populations and their habitats, leading the charge in safeguarding this iconic species.
The fund drives meaningful improvements in pronghorn habitats, supports species-specific research, and fosters educational programs that enhance public appreciation for these remarkable animals. Through its focused efforts, the Pronghorn Fund is committed to ensuring a sustainable future for Wyoming’s pronghorn and preserving their legacy for generations to come.

Vision/Mission
Our vision is to secure a sustainable future for Wyoming’s pronghorn, ensuring these iconic animals continue to roam freely across the state’s expansive landscapes.
We are committed to maintaining and enhancing pronghorn populations through a multifaceted approach that supports and extends the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s strategic pronghorn management plan. Our mission encompasses a range of targeted actions designed to address the critical needs of pronghorn:
- Wildlife Corridors & Crossings: Develop and maintain essential wildlife corridors that enable pronghorn to safely migrate across their habitat. Invest in the construction of wildlife crossings and overpasses to reduce vehicle collisions and ensure pronghorn can access critical seasonal ranges without disruption.
- Habitat Conservation: Focus on the restoration and protection of vital pronghorn habitats, particularly their winter ranges. Secure these areas through strategic land acquisitions, easements, and habitat leases to ensure long-term conservation and connectivity across the landscape.
- Wildlife-Friendly Fencing: Implement and promote fencing solutions that allow pronghorn to move freely across their natural range. By modifying or replacing existing barriers with wildlife-friendly designs, we help to preserve the natural migration patterns and access to resources that pronghorn rely on.
- Research & Education: Support scientific research aimed at better understanding pronghorn populations, habitat requirements, and their response to environmental changes. Complement this with educational programs designed to raise public awareness about the importance of pronghorn conservation and the steps that can be taken to protect their habitats.
- Community & Conservation Partnerships: Forge strong partnerships with local communities and conservation organizations to advance pronghorn conservation efforts. Encourage the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices that coexist with pronghorn habitats, and engage the public in local initiatives that foster appreciation and protection of these iconic animals.
“There is no better large mammal in Wyoming that exemplifies the character of our state than the pronghorn.”
