It was this idea that inspired EcoTour Adventures owner Taylor Phillips to found Wildlife Tourism: For Tomorrow, with the help and support of The WYldlife Fund President, Chris McBarnes. For many Wyomingites wildlife are not only part of our way of life, they are also core to our livelihoods. We believe that there is an untapped funding opportunity for wildlife conservation in Wyoming via the businesses and individuals who depend upon them.
Through Wildlife Tourism: For Tomorrow’s partnership with The WYldlife Fund and matching fund opportunities through the Wyoming Wildlife Natural Resource Trust, Wildlife Tourism: For Tomorrow, seeks to provide a long-term and robust funding mechanism for critical conservation projects across the state.
Our wildlife transcend the borders of National Parks, National Forests, and other public and private lands, so does our giving.
In 2020, President of The WYldlife Fund Chris McBarnes and Ecotour Adventures owner Taylor Phillips met to discuss their shared love of Wyoming wildlife. This introduction was made by The WYldlife Board Member and Jackson resident Penelope Maldonado A connection was made and a mutually beneficial partnership for wildlife was created. Taylor’s tourism background and The WYldlife Fund’s ability to direct funds to on the ground wildlife projects across the state was the perfect combination for this collaborative and groundbreaking process to take off.

Multiple drivers affect the future of conservation in the West including: the loss and recovery of threatened and endangered species; habitat and ecosystem degradation; finite supplies of food, water, and other natural resources; changing landscapes affected by catastrophic wildfire, invasive species, drought, and climate change; inclusion of Tribes and other underrepresented communities in conservation efforts; demographic shifts and changing wildlife value orientations; decreased connection to hunting and fishing heritage; inequitable access to resources; polarizing politics and priorities; insufficient resources and funding; and more.
Partnerships, collaboration, and inclusivity are often a part of addressing these conservation challenges. To be successful, the conservation community needs a workforce where individuals at all levels, regardless of title or position, possess the leadership skills, behaviors, and mindset that contribute to durable, well-supported solutions and decisions. We are launching the Western Conservation Leadership Development Program to meet this critical need.
