The participants hailed from Wyoming, California, West Virginia and Florida. The goal of the camp was to inspire young people by exposing them to cutting edge western conservation initiatives, outdoor recreation and leadership development in a spectacular Wyoming setting. With the help of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, leading biologists attended the camp daily to present lessons on topics ranging from migration to large carnivores to endangered species.
Camp participants participated in a host of activities which included fly rod building, fly fishing, horseback riding, hiking and star gazing. In the evenings, successful and prominent individuals engaged in leadership development chats around the campfire with the boys. These individuals included Founder and Chairman of the National Military Vehicle Museum-Dan Starks, Wyoming Game and Fish Commissioner-Ashlee Lundvall, CEO and Co-Founder of the Muley Fanatics Foundation-Joshua Coursey, Wyoming Game and Fish Department Director-Brian Nesvik, University of Wyoming Professor-Dr. Kevin Monteith and Little Jennie Ranch Owner-Mark Hamlin.
The WYldlife Fund is determined to expand this camp offering in 2023 and beyond. The next phase will be to add an additional camp for girls.
The first annual Inspire a Kid Camp would not have been possible without the efforts of WYldlife Fund Board of Director-Faith Hamlin, Bondurant Basin Outfitters and the entire team at the Little Jennie Ranch. Additionally, we would like to thank the following individuals and organizations for making camp possible: Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Commissioner Pete Dube, Joey’s Fly Fishing Foundation, Sporting Lead-Free, First Hunt Foundation-Wyoming, REI-Jackson, Wyoming 4H, Rocky Mountain Discount Sports-Riverton, First Tee-Monterey County, and Chestnut Mountain Ranch.
